Accordion Suits for Commutes | Laura Bernstein

Inspired by the movement of trains that pass through downtown Greensboro, Laura Bernstein produced a series of accordion pleated coats, which can be buttoned together in sets for up to six wearers. These shared garments both restrict movement and ensure that their wearers choreograph their movements together. In collaboration with dancers Cynthia Ling Lee, Brianna Taylor and students in UNCG’s Dance Department, Bernstein staged performative experiments using the coats around the city of Greensboro and at Elsewhere.
