These Madison Times! | Avery Cousins

Avery Cousins (Staunton, VA)
Elsewhere Goes To Madison. April 2018. Performance documentation. Archival and oral history research, acrylic on wood.

After discussing and documenting conversations with numerous Madison residents and archivists, Cousins performed a brief history every hour on the hour at the Madison Music Fest. Cousins also painted a quote from a local archivist on to a found grand piano lid:

“Return the town to its modest, simple, early look that would calm and reassure the restless yes. Open up these fine old buildings to sunlight. Maybe plant flowers and gardens along the plowed-up dirt streets and up in nice brick walkways. Maybe just maybe people would come and marvel at its American simplicity.”
