Essential Parts: A Guide to Moving Through Crisis and Unbridled Joy | Cara Hagan

Cara Hagan (Boone, NC)

Essential Parts uses the museum as a metaphor for the body-mind in a state of excitement. The disparate pieces of the work (titled 40 Gestures to Remind You, You’re Still Here; Pipe Dreams; Intuitive Maps; and Sensory Bricks), which span all floors of the museum, seek to present ways to bring the body-mind back to stasis.

40 Gestures to Remind You, You’re Still Here

From 40 Gestures to Remind You, You’re Still Here, a zine by Cara Hagan:

Experience is a detonator. Sometimes when things explode, they cease to be. You are indestructible. Sometimes, remembering that is hard.

Holding the precious particles of you in proximity to one another is made easier by holding onto something that has taken shape in the world — something that has mass, texture, color, and other such properties.

Some things in the material world exist to instruct us on how to move through crisis and unbridled joy, even if their original purpose was for something far different. Open yourself and listen to what they have to tell you.

As a way of listening deeply, you may choose to move your body in accordance with the gestures in this book. When we listen through our physicality, we access wisdom residing deep in the corners of our minds.

You’re Still Here.
