Chasing Freedom | Chris Cloud

chriscloud-1-800x530.jpg

For his residency project, Chris Cloud sought to challenge the idea of the museum as a closed system, by stealthily bringing in a set of new toys from area thrift stores to free them from consumer servitude. Led by Cabbage Patch Kid, Harriet Toyman, these toys travelled a network of secret routes and safe houses over the course of a week to their new home at the museum. The project, playfully evoking Greensboro’s historic role in the underground railroad and gently questions the logic of Elsewhere’s closed system, where no new things are meant to come in or out.

Chris created a hashtag and small blog for folks to follow along.
