Ligatures: In typography, ligatures refer to the visual connection of two or more letterforms for linguistic or aesthetic reasons. In latin text set in English, common combinations include fi, fl, st, and ffl; even the ubiquitous ampersand (&) is a ligature of e and t, the Latin word for ‘and’. These forms connect the individual letters into new, unique combinations. As a nod to the entry and exit of residents, the ever-evolving history of the space, and the connection of building 606 and 608, Ligatures are two hand-painted poems installed on thin wooden planks in the pass-through between the kitchen and co-lab. Bridging two rooms and filling a gap in the plaster and lath, these poems tie these spaces together physically, conceptually, and typographically. Small but intentional, they intend to create a pensive moment of connection.
