Awakening Bell. Touch and Go. Body of Mind. | Mahedi Anjuman

Mahedi Anjuman (Reno, NV) | August 2021

Awakening Bell: Upon entering the museum, visitors are invited to ring a bell Mahedi made from pieces of metal from the collection. Visitors taking time to stop and listen to the long ring of the bell is meant to mentally and physically prepare them to be more open to experiencing the museum and collections.

Touch & Go: Visitors are then invited to seek out and touch white clay rings hanging on brightly dyed fabric columns hanging in seven different corners of the ground floor. The act is also meant to be meditative with the seven colors representing the chakra that has seven levels of intensity of meditation.

Body of Mind is a collaborative project with 20 to 30 individuals from the Greensboro community assisting Mahedi in making 300-500 fabric balls out of the museum collection. She collected these balls and sewed them together to create one body.
